Graduation

Well, the day I never thought would come, came. Jason and I graduated from nursing school on September 22, 2010. What a wonderful day! Jason's parents and sister, Brenda were able to come out for our graduation, and my family was here, as well. It was a really nice day. I know that there were a lot of things about Ameritech that I hated, but at the end of the day, both Jason and I worked really, really hard, and this day was a celebration of that!

The graduation was composed of two parts; the pinning, and the actual commencement. Pinning was nice, we were able to take the nurse's oath, and do the candle lighting ceremony. It was a very surreal experience for me, but it was still nice. For the commencement, I was given a really nice surprise. I knew that I had missed the Dean's List, which was a GPA of 3.75 or higher by a little bit. It was frustrating because I got a lot of A-'s, which is weighted as a 3.70. When we were lining up for graduation, I was handed a blue cord, which was for the Dean's list honorable mention. Only one person made the Dean's list, and there were only 6 of us out of the entire class that were made the Dean's List honorable mention. I usually shy away from things that say "Honorable Mention", because in many ways I equate that with not being quite good enough, but not this. I worked HARD for that cord, and I'm going to be proud of it!

It felt good to walk and get my diploma, and I'm so happy to be done with school. At first I was really scared to move on to the next stage of my life, because for the longest time school was all I knew, but I'm READY now. We've both worked hard for this, now it's time to enjoy it!

Fitness Hazen

One of the best things that Crossfit has given us as a family is an increased love for fitness. This doesn't just stay between Jason and I, but Hazen has really hopped on board, as well. There isn't a day that goes by without him asking when we're going to go to the gym, because he wants to go exercise. When we're at home, he loves to do burpees and pushups, and his form is getting pretty good! When he gets a little bit older, we're going to enroll him in Crossfit Kids. I think he'll really like it, and both Jason and I believe that it's a great foundation that can do him nothing but good in the long run.

Hazen's First Field Trip

Hazen's first field trip just so happened to be at the Fire Station. We talked about it for a few days, so by the time it came around, Hazen was more than excited! Heather and I even made sure to dress in matching PG Fire shirts, so that was fun, too. The boys started off their field trip with coloring some special fire dog pictures. After that, they did a relay that practiced how they would escape from a fire. It was really cool for me to see Hazen interacting with other kids. He's probably the youngest one in th class, but for the most part, he did really well. Next, they went to watch a really epic video that was taped sometime in the late 80's. Hazen still loved it because they showed a few fire trucks. Finally, it was time to walk up to the Fire Station. This part was HILARIOUS. The firefighter that was there was trying to explain what to do if there is a fire in your house, and Hazen was literally inches away from his face trying to talk to him. There was a group of about 25 people wondering what the crap was going on, and who this kid was that was interrupting everything. It was so cute. Hazen and Jason go there so frequently that he probably feels like he owns he place. There was a bit of a tantrum that occurred afterwards that I would rather not remember forever, so we need to work on that for future field trips! It was still a lot of fun, and I look forward to all of these fun school memories that we are going to be making.
